Nudge to Vote 2.0: Helping Filipino Mothers Vote Wisely in the 2022 National Elections

AHA! Behavioral Design

Calendars, chatbots, and games that helped mothers compare candidates on issues and trust their sources.

Target Segment: Filipino mothers who are registered voters (ages 30-65).

Challenge: On ease of choice selection — How might we make it easier for mothers to choose a candidate by helping them identify priority characteristics based on personal values and felt needs, and framing candidate selection to match? On trusted sources — How might we increase mothers' trust in the source of information on candidates' stands and accomplishments?

BD Solution: AHA! BD created physical and digital prototypes to help mothers reflect, narrow their lists, and research via verified sources: Handa sa Halalan (a weekly wall calendar with election-prep prompts); KandidaWHO (a chatbot guiding mothers through candidates' stands from verified sources); Hindi Ako Fan (a fillable paper fan with candidate stands); Pili-PINAS (a voter-advice quiz that matches a candidate); Boto Bingo (a bingo game on priority values); and PAK! Check (a campaign on spotting fake news).

Results: Significant change in voting style among mothers: comparing candidates on more than two relevant issues, and looking beyond a single candidate to others that also fit their criteria, changes attributable to the use of PAK! Check (p<.01).
