Prevention of Primary Teenage Pregnancy in Palawan: Behavioral Solutions for Young Males

AHA! Behavioral Design

Prototypes that got young men talking about condom use and safer intimacy, tripling clinic sourcing in Palawan.

Target Segment: Male adolescents and young adults (ages 18-24), divided into Attached (committed relationship) and Unattached (single, dating around).

Challenge: How might we increase conversations brought up by young males on condom use (attached and unattached) and alternative safe and pleasurable activities (attached) with their partner during pre-sex and post-sex conversations?

BD Solution: With Roots of Health, AHA! BD designed: [Attached] Safe at Sarap Body Map (a printed body map of risky areas to explore safe, pleasurable alternatives) and Landi Responsibly Sticker Pack (an FB Messenger sticker set to naturally raise safe sex before meeting up); [Unattached] Condoming Alam (a chatbot that assesses risk level and encourages raising condom use with potential partners).

Results: Discussions about condom use before and after sex increased over three weeks, shifting from seldom to half of the time; Condoming Alam use explains 45.5% of the change in conversations about contraceptive use before sex and 42.4% after sex; ROH Center sourcing rose from 15.75% to 59.45%.
